Meet Luisa del Carmen: EnGen Learner, Reclaiming her MBA

Born in Venezuela and naturalized in Spain, Luisa del Carmen earned an MBA and had dreams to build a career in business. But those goals got put on hold after she relocated to the United States. English barriers limited her career options in her new country.

“I was determined not to leave behind the MBA,” she recalls.

Luisa del Carmen got a job in the e-commerce sector. Through the company’s employee benefits program, she was able to connect with EnGen.

“I adore EnGen. It’s like a school that never closes its doors.”

Like many people, Luisa del Carmen works full-time hours, making it difficult to find time to attend traditional classroom-based English courses outside of work. With EnGen’s on-demand English instruction, available on her smart phone, she is able to learn on her own schedule.

“It's the perfect way to study, you do it in your own time. The platform is open 24 hours a day,” she says. “For example, I had a private class with a teacher at 3:00 am. And with all his dedication, he stayed with me for an hour addressing my goals. That is something that you will not be able to get in any school with a strict schedule.”

EnGen’s platform leverages technology for what computers do best, so that people can do what humans do best.

The platform offers a growing catalog of AI-powered, career-aligned courses tailored to Luisa del Carmen’s goals, like “Business English” and courses focused on office talk, work email, phone calls, and remote work. EnGen also offers around-the-clock live classes with certified teachers and one-on-one support from a team of multilingual coaches, who support learners with goal setting, study habits, and tech troubleshooting.

“I interact with teachers who help me correct my pronunciation and guide me specifically on my goals. My teachers make me feel confident in my expression and motivated to continue. I have also taken group classes where everyone has the same enthusiasm, studying and practicing the language. That is highly motivating and I enjoy it a lot,” Luisa del Carmen says.

“I am more confident in expressing myself because I have learned new vocabulary and everyday expressions that I can use where I work.”

Speaking of work, Luisa del Carmen supports her colleagues – many of whom are also adult English learners – in connecting with the platform that has powered her confidence and proficiency.

“I encourage all of my coworkers to use EnGen. Although we are at different levels, we talk about our progress and we all agree that EnGen is helping us communicate better and more fluidly,” she says.

As she gains confidence in speaking and using English, Luisa del Carmen plans to get her international degree evaluated and to pursue career opportunities in the business sector.

“EnGen is the source of support to achieve my goals, and I hope to be able to convey my sincere gratitude for providing the possibility of learning a second language necessary to advance in every sense in the U.S.”
